Malayalam has been in print since the 19th century. How did print influence popular culture? How did language affect the social structure?

The Malayalam Project looks at the use of language in print over a period of approximately 100 years; this is a linguistics study that is a direct reflection of the social condition of the timer period of each work. Being popular and mass produced, print media influenced large sections of people across the geography of Kerala.

Come and take a look, for non readers of malayalam – plesae ask for assistance from team members of the project. The project will evolve over s period of 4 months during the Kochi Muziris Biennale; graphic artists working in malayalam medium have interpreted old writings in new techniques.
